A roaming software integration checklist

A structured review of roaming data purposes, partner hand-offs and reconciliation responsibilities.

Agree which problem the data must solve

A roaming integration can support customer information, operational investigation or a partner-facing commercial process. These purposes should not be treated as one interchangeable feed.

Document the intended consumer, the source of the information and the timeliness the source can support. A customer-facing promise should reflect those actual input conditions.

Check identity, timing and corrections

Records exchanged across systems need enough context to be interpreted consistently. Pay particular attention to event time, processing time and the way amendments are represented.

  • How is a record linked to the correct subscriber and account?
  • Which network and partner references are required?
  • How is incomplete or delayed information identified?
  • What distinguishes a correction from an additional event?
  • Which party owns a rejected or unmatched record?
  • How are customer-facing and wholesale purposes separated?

Define evidence for reconciliation

Agree the checks used to compare source and consuming systems, then identify the person or team responsible for exceptions. A record that cannot be matched should remain visible rather than disappear into an unmonitored retry queue.

We can use this checklist to frame an engineering discussion around roaming software, shared customer context and the applications responsible for downstream decisions.
