An eSIM integration checklist for telecom teams

Questions to answer before connecting an eSIM customer journey to provisioning partners and BSS workflows.

Confirm the ecosystem and the device

An eSIM integration depends on the provisioning context and the device interaction model. Establish whether the journey is for consumer devices, an IoT deployment or another supported arrangement before designing the BSS workflow.

Identify the organizations operating the provisioning infrastructure and the interfaces they provide. Software integration, infrastructure operation and any applicable compliance obligations need separate owners.

Trace the order through activation

Describe how an accepted commercial request becomes a provisioning action and which identifiers connect the two. The checklist should also explain how progress reaches the customer channel and service team.

  • Which offer and account rules must pass first?
  • Where is the subscription created or referenced?
  • How is provisioning material delivered and protected?
  • What confirms profile handling and service activation?
  • How are expiry, duplicate requests and partner timeouts handled?
  • Who investigates an activation with an uncertain result?

Turn the answers into test cases

A successful activation is only one test. Include an interrupted customer journey, an expired instruction and a late response from the provisioning side. Verify that the order state remains understandable after each event.

Use the resulting cases to agree the product and integration boundary. This gives the implementation a practical definition of completion instead of a demonstration that works only under ideal conditions.
