Write the business boundary first
Describe the commercial journey being changed and the result expected by the person using it. A new-customer order, an account restructure and a plan amendment have different dependencies. A modernization plan is easier to assess when it starts with one of those concrete boundaries.
Record the applications involved and the responsibilities that will remain with them. This prevents a product evaluation from silently expanding into a replacement of the entire BSS estate.
Use a shared set of implementation questions
Bring commercial, application and operational perspectives into the same review. The goal is not a longer list of features, but a consistent explanation of how the proposed workflow will behave.
- Which customer and product records are authoritative?
- How are offers, subscriptions and accounts identified?
- Which actions are synchronous and which complete later?
- What happens to a duplicate request or a missing response?
- Who owns an order that cannot progress automatically?
- Which data relationships must survive migration?
Include the operational systems in the plan
Map the BSS request to the OSS service actions and the inventories that record their results. Identify which systems own product, customer, service and resource information, and how their identifiers remain connected.
Operational readiness includes the behavior after the first activation. Plan for service changes, deactivation, delayed responses and discrepancies between intended and observed state. Give the support team a defined way to investigate and recover those journeys.
- Which OSS interfaces carry service orders and provisioning requests?
- What evidence confirms completion of each service action?
- How are service and resource records reconciled after a failure?
- Which operational events need customer or account context?
Set acceptance criteria before the build
Translate the chosen journey into observable checks. Include the final service state, the customer-visible result and the operational information needed to investigate a failure. These checks should be useful to product and integration teams alike.
We can discuss the planning boundary against Telco CRM, the Order Orchestration Platform and the Central Product and Customer Repository. The guide is a conversation framework; implementation scope follows from the systems and responsibilities in your environment.
